Title: The Expectant Detectives
Author: Kat Ailes
Pub date: January 9, 2024
πΌThank you so much to Minotaur Books for the ARC and to Macmillan Audio for the audiobook!
πΌIβll start by saying that the cover and title are absolutely adorable! What doesnβt sound fun about a group of ladies that meet in their pregnancy class and then find a dead body? (in a book, in real life that would be less fun LOL) They would naturally take it into their own hands to solve the murder! Iβm all about books with amateur sleuths and cozy mysteries and was so excited for this one!
πΌAs a mom of two, I had hoped this one would be funny and relatable!
πΌWhile some parts were fun and witty, I struggled to really get into the murder mystery plot and wish that it was focused more on that and less onβ¦all of the other stuffβ¦and there was a lot of other stuff. I think it could have been about 20% shorter and then it would have packed more of a punch instead of lulling on.
πΌThe ending was redeeming enough and there were a few moments that were very interesting, but overall, I struggled to care what happened to the characters.
πΌIf this sounds like something you’d enjoy, you should definitely read it!
πΌI still plan to read book 2 when it comes out!
