πI initially looked over this book because I thought it was a true-crime book so if you’ve thought the same, let me clarify that this is a FICTION THRILLER with a true-crime feel!
πThis is my second book by Dervla McTierman and while I enjoyed THE MURDER RULE, she really knocked it out of the park on this one! There were a couple times my mouth was wide open and the last sentence of the book made me want to scream; I’ll never forget it!
πThis is the story of a teenager named Nina who didn’t return home after a hiking trip with her boyfriend, Simon. Since it’s in SO many other reviews, I’ll also mention that YES there are similarities here to the Gabby Petito case and that YES it still is worth reading even if you think you know what will happen: you don’t ;)!
πMy favorite part of this book was that it was told from many different perspectives: both of Nina’s parents and her sister, both of Simon’s parents and a police office on the missing person’s case! All of these characters had their own reasons to act in the ways that the did and some of them were more unhinged than others and I was THERE FOR IT!
πThe more I think about the psychology behind how this book delves into the mindset of every character, the more I’m blown away by McTiernan’s plotting and writing. The ending especially has my mind SPINNING! There is nothing better for me than a final sentence of an already amazing book that really makes your jaw drop, and WHAT HAPPENED TO NINA? delivered that for me!
πBravo to Dervla, I can’t wait to see what you do next!
π§As far as the audiobook production goes, @harperaudio knocked it out of the park! Definitely add this to your TBR!
