🤯HOW ARE 2025 DEBUTS SO GOOD??
📝The Correspondent is an epistolary novel, which means the entire book is written in letter format. I’m not saying this lightly when I say this book would have been a massive undertaking to write in a normal format, but what Virgina Evans did here is nothing short of astonishing. The amount of planning and forethought it must have taken her to piece together probably 200 letters/emails to slowly share this heartbreaking story is beyond impressive.
💌I finished this book a couple days ago, but even thinking about it now causes the same feeling of sadness in my gut to come back to me. Saying that this book made me cry is an understatement. There has probably only been one other book in my life that was more emotionally moving than this one.
📝The main character, Sybil Van Antwerp, is one I’ll never forget. There’s just SO much to unpack in her long, beautiful, yet absolutely heartbreaking life story. In her 70s, her days are almost exclusively spent alone writing/reading letters as she looks back over her life at all the people and events that shaped her into who she is today.
💌I will absolutely be reading this book again someday.
❤️Trust me, you will not be the same after reading this book! Add to your TBR today!
🎧WOW! Jane Oppenheimer played the main character, Sybil, and blew it out of the water. All other characters’ letters were read in a different voice by a full-cast of narrators. This truly was a PERFORMANCE! I beg you to do the audio version 🎧🎧
❓What was the last book that made you emotional?
