📖 First of all, I want to say how much I loved the formatting of this book! There weren’t really even “chapters” but rather very short sections (1-5 pages) that made an already short book absolutely fly by. This story is about Sofia, a 12 yo girl who is currently living out of a car with her mom and younger brother due to displacement after several hardships.

🚗 This is a hard one to rate because some could argue that “not much happened” but even so, I literally couldn’t put it down. Some things require a bit of your imagination as to what is actually happening, since it’s told from the perspective of a child, but I think the hints are there if you’re looking for them.

📖 It’s such an undertaking to write an entire book with heavier themes from the viewpoint of a 12 year old, but she made it feel so natural and accurate.

🚗 I definitely agree with this being categorized as “new adult” with a little bit of “coming of age.” I also think this could be a great bookclub pick as it would open itself up to much discussion!

🙌 This is a truly impressive debut and I can’t wait to see what Amanda Rizkalla does next!
